Program
Saturday: Palermo. Independent arrival at ‘Hotel Politeama Palace, located in the heart of the city of Palermo. Welcome cocktail at the hotel. Dinner at a typical restaurant. Overnight
Sunday: Palermo – Erice – Selinunte – Agrigento. After breakfast, departure to Erice, a charming medieval village perched on Mount S. Giuliano which overlooks the coast and expanses of white underlying saline. Continue to Selinunte and stop in a country famous for the production of olive oil, where before lunch, you can taste local products (black bread of Castelvetrano, olives, wine and locally produced oil). Visit the Acropolis of Selinunte, the largest archaeological park in the Mediterranean. Continue to Agrigento, defined by Pindar “the most beautiful city of mortals”. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Della Valle.
Monday: Agrigento – Piazza Armerina – Ragusa. After breakfast, visit of the famous and unique Valley of the Temples; among others, we can admire the Temple of Juno, Concord and Hercules, one of the most impressive traces of Greek civilization in Sicily and “World Heritage” by UNESCO. Departure to Piazza Armerina. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit to the Villa Romana del Casale, a UNESCO site thanks to its 3,500 square meters of well-preserved mosaics depicting hunting scenes and mythological. Continue to Ragusa. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Mediterraneo Palace.
Tuesday: Ragusa – Siracusa – Zona Taormina. After breakfast, visit the old town of Ragusa “Ibla”, one of the most important examples of the Baroque in Sicily and in 2002 awarded the title of World Heritage Site by UNESCO, along with Val di Noto. Tasting of typical products at Piazza Duomo with its towering high the Cathedral of San Giorgio. Departure to Siracusa. Free lunch. In the early afternoon, visit of Ortigia, the historic and baroque city where you can admire the Temple of Minerva turned into Christian cathedral, the legendary Fountain of Arethusa and the Temple of Apollo. The visit of the archaeological zone, “Neapolis”: the Latomie of Paradise, the Greek Theatre and the ‘Ear of Dionysius. Continue to Giardini Naxos. Accomodation, dinner and overnight staying at Hotel Caesar Palace.
Wensday: Etna – Taormina – Zona Taormina. After breakfast, depending on weather conditions, excursion to Mount Etna. Reached 1,800, we will enjoy a wonderful view on its way to the spectacular Monti Silvestri, small volcanic cones off for a century surrounded by the still hot lava from the last eruptions continue to Taormina, the pearl of Sicilian tourism. In the afternoon, visit of the Cathedral, one of the most beautiful Sicilian churches of the Norman period and the medieval wash. Free time to stroll along the typical rich medieval streets of craft shops, jewelry and ceramics of Santo Stefano di Camastra. Continue to Palermo. Accommodation and dinner at the Hotel Cristal Palace. Free dinner. Overnight staying.
Friday: Palermo – Monreale. After breakfast, free morning or opportunity to participate in an optional excursion on Mount Pellegrino, the most famous mountain in Palermo, to get to the shrine of Santa Rosalia, the patron saint of the city. From the viewpoint we enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the Conca d’Oro. Below walk to discover one of the most colorful historical markets of Palermo: “The Capo Market” immersed in an explosion of vegetables, fruits and anything else you can imagine (supplement payable on site, will be realized with a minimum of participants). Lunch at a local restaurant. In the early afternoon departure to Monreale to visit the beautiful Cloister and the imposing cathedral rightly called the eighth wonder of the world. The visit continues with the city of Palermo: the Cathedral, the Church of Martorana of the most fascinating Byzantine churches that exist in Sicily dating back to the Middle Ages, and panoramic tour of the city to admire the old town: the Quattro Canti, Piazza Pretoria with the fountain decorated with statues. I’m going back to the hotel. Free dinner. Overnight.
